Installing Apache Cassandra on Ubuntu 20.04 – Linux Hint

Kassandra is used by thousands of companies worldwide to store and retrieve thousands of terabytes of data in an environment that is both meticulously detailed and easily accessible. His reliability and high fault tolerance have earned him the reputation he enjoys today. In the assessment of DB Engine, Cassandra ranks first in the rankings of large companies.

In this tutorial you will learn how to set up Apache Cassandra, one of the best NoSQL database systems, which is both free and open source and offers high linear scalability and low latency. It was originally designed to support the search function of Facebook’s mailbox and has since been improved to become the most efficient and scalable distribution database.

Step 1: Installation of Oracle JAVA

We need to configure JAVA on your system first, because Cassandra Oracle needs JAVA on every operating system. This step is just a simple configuration guide, so readers who already have Java installed can skip step 1.

To illustrate how to install Java on your desktop, we download the latest version of the open platform : OpenJDK 14. This open source version works with both Kassandra and any paid version, so it should be enough.

Enter the following command to update the archive

Then run the following command to install OpenJDK 14:

$ sudo apt Installation openjdk-14-jdk

OpenJDK 14 should work automatically after installation. To check the installation, print:

This should be in the next issue:

If you install Java, you can download the latest version of Apache Cassandra from the official website. However, in this demonstration we will use the official Apache repository by adding it to the local software repository.

Step 2: Installing Cassandra Apache

The following steps provide detailed information about downloading Apache Cassandra by adding the official deposit. This special method may be useful if you cannot download it from the official website.

Enter the following commands to obtain the GPG repository key

$ wet -q -O – https://www.apache.org/dist/cassandra/KEYS | add sudo apt-key —

Then use the following command to add a repository

sudo sh -c ‘echo deb http://www.apache.org/dist/cassandra/debian 311x main
> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cassandra.sources.list’.

Step 3: Installing CassandraApache

Enter the commands to start the installation:

$ sudo apt install Cassandra

That should put Cassandra on the Ubuntu desktop. Then check the installation by entering the following commands into the terminal:

When the exit says Normal, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.

Cqlsh is a CLI interface that allows you to communicate with the Cassandra query language.

Packaging

I hope the above instructions helped you install Apache Cassandra on your Ubuntu desktop. Apache Cassandra requires Oracle Java to run and open the Java implementation, OpenJDK works perfectly with Cassandra. The method used in this lesson first added the Apache repository to the Ubuntu repository, and then installed the database.

What distinguishes Cassandra from other database systems in particular is the large amount of data it offers and the extremely low latency of its activities. The fact that so many large conglomerates use this database system, including Apple, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Twitter, eBay and Netflix, proves its usefulness as a reliable platform for data management.
